Letter to Pearl from Pippa (Kristophe)

Dear Mum,

Emigrating is certainly scary, but we have both been so brave you would be proud of us. I have been watching out for my sister Pocket, from the very start of our adventure when our little carriage went next to our New Owner in the back of the big moving carriage.

Pocket kept falling asleep. As she said, she'd need all her energy to explore our new home, and exploring can be very tiring on the brain. One of us had to keep alert on the journey - we were going to the other side of the world - more or less - and after all I did have the easy job. The grill on our little carriage must be to protect us from any wandering marauders and half way round the world couldn't take THAT long. I'm not so sure about that - M11, M25 and M3 seemed to take quite as long as it sounds, and we definitely travelled through dangerous territory. I once heard New Owner say to the driver, 'Watch out for that van in front - See the notice on the back "Warning! Dogs in transit." ' -----

Well -about our New Home. Everything in Our Room was bewildering - queer sounds, strange smells, and no signs of other cats. What a funny place -- no cats - (except us). Pocket said they might just be hiding, and THAT was the very first thing we should do - after we had had our dinner of course (- one needs sustenance for finding good hiding places.) And what a good place we discovered -via a clever scrambling arrangement of chairs round the long table. So when New Owner came into our room to "see how they are settling in" there wasn't even a whisker of a kitten in sight. We could have stayed up there, balanced on those table struts for ever, whilst New Owner peered into corners and behind curtains earnestly calling 'Pocket! Pippa! Where on earth ..?" in a New Ownerish sort of way. But trust Pocket - she got so excited she couldn't resist squeaking. Naturally we were discovered and had to make a dash for it to squeeze under a corner cupboard. No chance of being captured under there! Only supper tempted us out.

Our Room is quite well furnished once one is used to it - scratching post with places to jump onto or hide in, dining area with food and water bowls, a basket with warm rug to cuddle into, and the "usual offices" ( much better now New Owner has removed that door which was so hard to push open!). Still I don't think it was originally designed as a Kitten Room - and that has given us quite a lot of amusement, and caused New Owner a few surprises. I shall write more about this and how we are training New Owner as you told us, Mum, in my next letter. Love from Pippa and Pocket to you, our brothers and the whole Kristophe family. Pippa

PS Actually one very good thing here is that the food tastes just like Kristophe cooking - thank you for organising THAT Mum! Just one little problem - two weeks later we can't squeeze under that corner cupboard any more!!

Typed from dictation by New Owner who apologises for delay in transmission.

Hello Bev, Just thought that i would let you know about our lovely Lilac Kitten "Ming".

Just 2 days after arriving he settled in,took control like an emporer and claimed both Mother and myself as his slaves.

He has the free run of my detached house and enjoys the constant attention he gets.

He eats like a horse and is growing like mad. In just the month that we have had him he seems to have doubled in size.

I took him to our vet for check up & registration and she said he was the biggest 4 month old Siamese kitten she had ever seen.

Regarding the food i would like your advice on two things. Firstly he seems to like a little bit of cheese but should he have it ?

Secondly i notice in the Pets at home store that there is a Royal Canin cat food specially formulated for Siamese Cats.

It is only for adult Siamese and is a little more expensive. It says that it slows down their eating speed which is something Ming could do with at present. I don`t know if you buy it at all but do you know if it is as good as it claims ? Two things have suprised us about Ming.

One is the amazing vocal range that he has. We have had lots of Cats but none have talked in the way (or as loud) as he does. Also he is VERY intelligent and works things out very quickly (specially to get his own way) but you probably already knew that. I do hope that Ming`s sister has calmed down now and is not missing him as much ?

I have added a couple of pictures of Ming for you. I am sure you will agree as does everybody does that he is just gorgeous !

Best wishes
Michael

Hi Bev,

I hope all is well. Just dropping you a email on how the boys are doing. They will be coming up to two years old soon, how time goes by. They have been lucky to make it to that age sometimes, they drive us mad. They are not normal cats, they are so intelligence and you have to be one step in front of them at all times.even to this day they still amaze me.

They have to get involved in everything we do, if I make the bed they are there. When we go to bed they will lay on the bed with us all night.

Yhey are well looked after and well loved Bev.

Regards

Tony

Hi Bev,

Hope you and all your lovely cats are well. We are all well and really enjoying our new additions - We would just like to say Thank you so much for letting us have two of your precious babies. We couldn't imagine life without them now, they have settled in so well. Daisy (chocolate tabby) settled in literally overnight, such a confident little lady and full of life and character - she is gorgeous!! We named the blue point Phoebe, and bless her she took a little bit of time to settle down- we felt so cruel at first taking her away from her mummy but inevitably it had to happen at some point- but we gave her time and space and she soon came round, we had a few days of intense crying she was obviously making a statement, and night if she was on her own she cried but when she was in bed with us she was fine so that was good at least she felt loved and safe there. We loved that too! Hence to say they don't use their basket they come into bed with us or sometimes the boys. It took the girls a couple of days with each other too, we had several hissy fits as you had said to expect!! But after that, they are the best of friends and are always together playing and sleeping. You could watch them play for hours. Daisy is definitely living up to the tabby point reputation as being the most mischievous and is certainly far more inquisitive!! While Phoebe is much more quieter out of the two but such a little darling. They have certainly brought a new lease of life to our household!! I have taken lots of piccies but haven't had a chance to download them yet but as soon as we do I will send some.

Thanks again and take care

Paula, David and boys
